Casino operator Crown Resorts has revealed the appointments of two non-executive members to its Board of Directors. The addition of the new directors came as the latest change in the recent overhaul of the company’s leadership team that has been brought in 2017.
As mentioned above, the news came as one of the several leadership changes revealed by Crown over the current year. Most of the changes were made after the casino and gambling operator unveiled its decision to become more focused on its Australian operations and lessen its exposure to Macau.
New Additions as Part of Recent Overhaul
The first one of the new additions to Crown Resorts’ Board of Directors, which joins the Board with immediate effect is Jane Halton. Ms. Halton has been known as the former secretary of the Australian Department of Finance. Her appointment is subjected to a regulatory approval.
The other newly-appointed member of the Board of Directors at Crown Resorts is Antonia Korsanos, who is the Chief Finance Officer of Aristocrat, another international gaming operator, to date. Ms. Korsanos is expected to join Crown Resorts’ board as soon as her existing professional engagement is brought to an end.
The two new appointments to the Packer-controlled gambling behemoth are expected to enhance the expertise of diversity of the company’s board, as revealed by John Alexander, current CEO of the operator.
Over the last year, the gambling giant has undergone some changes in its leadership team. First, in January 2017, billionaire James Packer joined Crown Resorts’ board only a year after he stepped down from the position. He got back to the Board only a short time after some employees of the operator got arrested on accusations of gambling crimes in China.
Also, the end of January saw the then-Chairman of Crown Resorts, Robert Ranking, step down from his position. John Alexander, a Deputy Chairmand and ex editor of Sydney Morning Herald was the one to replace Mr. Ranking, taking over his position of Chairman of the Board. In additin, Mr. Alexander was also appointed at the position of Chief Executive Officer in February this year to replace Rowen Craigie, who had spent more than a decade as a CEO with Crown Resorts.
To date, John Alexander has the roles of Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and Executive Deputy Chairman at the company.
Crown Resorts’ Reputation Hurt by Allegations in Misconduct
Recently, Crown Resorts has been facing certain difficulties, after in October it was accused of interacting with pokies it owns. The operator also faced accusations in knowingly trying to hide potential illegal practices related to gamblers.
As Casino Guardian already reported in October, the allegations in misconduct were backed by a number of whistleblowers who provided names of Crown employees who allegedly made some staff members to interact with the poker machines so that the number of players’ losses number increases.
The accusations in illegal practices claim that Crown Resorts has been deliberately trying to hide possible money laundering practices at its biggest casino and breached financial disclosure laws. Crown Resorts has turned down all accusations.
